Mine is a story that spans two decades and two continents. It all began when I moved to Australia after college to pursue a work opportunity. I was socially very active and made friends with ease. Then I met ‘the girl of my dreams’ and life was perfect. Until it was not.

I wanted a closer more intimate relationship with her, but I failed to get an erection every time I tried. After a while I felt a sense of blind panic. She tried to reassure me saying “It happens, let’s be patient.”

My continuing inability to be intimate with my girlfriend led to immense frustration. Her patience wore out and our relationship ended. I was devastated.

And then it happened again. I attempted a second close relationship and faced the same problem. I felt as if I was part of a nightmare that wouldn’t end and one over which I had no control. I consulted several doctors who prescribed expensive medicines and painful injections. But the effect on my condition was temporary as was my second relationship. I resorted to internet research, also joined Men’s groups to share my concerns but all in vain with no long term impact. I was 27 now and my family was putting pressure on me to marry. My parents chose a girl for me, we met and shortly after we wed. But all through this seemingly joyful journey, I was plagued with one single thought: I had to find a solution to my inability to have an erection even in the face of stimuli that would excite any normal male.

If I wanted my marriage to last I had to find a permanent solution.

I decided to be transparent with my wife about my problem and confided in her. It was also around this time that I was diagnosed with diabetes. All throughout this ordeal, my wife was very supportive. She suggested that we continue the search for a permanent solution.

This search lasted almost 2 years and led us to a little known but Possible solution: penile implants. After reading up about the procedure and its benefits, my wife and I travelled to Delhi for the surgery. Within two months, I finally learned what it was like to have a normal sex life!

I am 38 now and content, living the happy life I always dreamed I would. I am so very grateful to my wife, who never once left my side over the years. I also want to thank my doctor who guided and counseled me like a friend, helping me make the best decision of my life. My advice to other men is this: if you are dealing with erectile dysfunction then there is a solution that can possibly turn your life around.

With the right kind of guidance and treatment, you can turn even this nightmare into a dream! No man should have to struggle to have a good intimate relationship. My struggle was close to a nightmare into a dream!
